Once you have built a structure using the Chart of Accounts Build process, you can only remove categories which have now been built into nominal accounts by deleting them.
You can delete a or several nominal accounts at the same time using the Chart of Accounts screen, however there are certain rules that the nominal account needs to meet before you can delete them.
If you want to completely delete the category, you will also have to delete the record from the Categories screen which we have explained at the bottom of this article.

Click on Financials then Settings and then click Categories.
Click on the category you want to delete a record from and click on the Edit button.
Note: For any records that have not been added or built into a structure, you can see next to the record.Click on the to delete the record.
Note: There is no confirmation for when you are deleting a record from a category, so the record is removed immediately. You can add the deleted record back easily, by clicking on the + Insert new record button.
