Error - 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object'

Updated over 3 months ago

The error 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' can occur in many applications. In AOI the solution is to rename the AOI folder within the appdata, re-register the user and re-create data connections.

  1. Open Windows Explorer. In the file path at the top, type %appdata% , press Rtn key.

  2. Open the ‘AccessAccountingLtd’ folder.

  3. Rename the ‘AccessOfficeIntegration’ folder to be ‘AccessOfficeIntegration_OLD’.

  4. Open AOI Registration and register AOI

  5. Note: At the last stage of the registration process, check the Company Name field is populated. If not, the user may not be registered correctly. Open AOI Registration. The ‘Access Software Registration’ window appears showing the ‘Start Page’. Select ‘Manage Access Office Integration users’, click Next. The ‘Manage users’ page appears. Select the user with the issue and click Deactivate selected user(s), click Finish. Repeat this process from step one using the original version of the AOI license file.

  6. Open AOI Administrator and create the Data connections

  7. Open Excel and check if the Access tab is present.

  8. If the issue persists, you may be missing a template, to remedy this, copy the same AccessOfficeIntegration folder from step2 from a working machine to this one to bring across any missing templates
