Please see the following on Report, template or workbook performance issues:
Note: depending on your AOI version, there may be possible hotfixes that can be provided to address certain bugs and performance issues that have been identified - for this please contact us
Following having any appropriate hotfixes provided, if performance issues persist, please review the below.
This issue is usually down to the machine's available resource and performance usage (i.e. CPU, Memory, Disk, etc), whilst also dependent on the connection to the database.
Note: This can be either with the local machine being used, or the machine/server being connected to via a Remote Desktop Connection.
With the available resource being so low as the capacity is being ran at a high percentage, due to having multiple programs / files / browser tabs open (especially those of large sizes), the performance can become unstable, which prevents Excel from correctly working with reports alongside AOI, and can also stop the AOI add-ins from loading.
If this issue is being experienced on a remote connection to another machine/server which multiple users are also connecting to at the same time, this will then in turn also further cause the network bandwidth on the 'target' to be further split, and thus also affecting the broadband speeds which may also cause issues in the communication with the database and across the network.
Further to this, if the Excel Workbooks are not saved on the local machine, but being opened and pulled from a network location, or a cloud location such as a SharePoint site, then this will also negatively impact the performance of Excel and AOI, as the Excel is not only connecting to the database/server, but also the location where the workbook is saved and running from, which increase the transfer over the internet connection.
Solution
To try and enable the workbook to run correctly, attempt (along with any users connected to the same machine / server) to close down any unnecessary programs to help make more resources available for the desired Excel workbook to correctly function.
It may also be worth noting that if this is in relation to a shared server, then your IT may need to consider increasing the Memory (RAM) and Disk size on the server, possibly also considering the CPU's average use and available remaining - possibly requiring a full server upgrade.
Your IT can further monitor the server to identify what is required using the Task Manager, Resource Monitor, and any other Tools or Applications they may have or can gain as they require.
Ensure that the connection to any network or cloud locations are successful, stable, and have no issues with syncing. In addition, the connections should be of an online status.
Any sync/connections errors or fails will slow down the Excel performance for the workbook which is not influenced by AOI.
Further to this, we recommend that the workbook is stored on the local machine which it is being used on with AOI which should improve the entire performance of Excel, the machine, and AOI.
Note: AOI will always perform slower in-line with Excel if the workbook is pulling its content from a network or cloud location
