There is an existing configuration available in the drop down.
If the above criteria have been met then then there are various stages to resolving this issue:
To check there are no background processes running on the computer:
Close Excel.
Open Task Manager.
Scroll through the process to see if an Excel process is still running.
If there is, select the process and click End Task.
Open and Excel and set up an Update Template and see if the buttons are active.
Turn the Access tab (COM Add-in) off and back on again:
In Excel, select File, select Options. The ‘Excel Options’ window appears.
Select Add-ins.
Use the ‘Manage’ drop-down and select COM Add-ins.
Click Go. The ‘Com Add-Ins’ window appears.
Un-tick the entry ‘Access Office Integration For Microsoft Excel ’.
Click OK. The Access tab will disappear after a few seconds.
Click OK. Repeat steps 1 to 6, but this time select the entry ‘Access Office Integration For Microsoft Excel ’
Check if the buttons are active.
To check the Update button is active on a new worksheet in the current workbook:
To create a new worksheet, click the plus + icon.
Click Setup Update Template and recreate the template that doesn't have the Update button active.
Check if the Update button is active on this sheet.
If it is active, the original sheet has become corrupted in some way and needs to be deleted and the new sheet used instead.
Check the template cell range
When the selected cell is in a row that is outside of the defined cell range for the template, then the buttons will become inactive. You will need to select a cell/row that is within the template cell range in order for the buttons to work. You can find the defined cell range for the template as follows:
Select a cell near the start of the sheet that enables the buttons.
Click Edit. This will then show you the defined cell range for the template.
